The Academy wound up their campaign with a 36-29 win against Cheshunt, although the importance of the game lay in the fact that it was a charity game fund raiser in memory of Cheshunt player who sadly passed away a couple of seasons ago.

As for the game itself, Ignatians having trailed 12-5 at one point – with Luke Roper going over for the visitors – rebounded strongly and a successive scores from King, Micha and William, saw them claim a 22-12 lead.

Luke Roper went over again either side of Cheshunt scoring a further two tries of their own, before Emmanuel made the game safe after claiming the last of the visitors’ six tries.

Cheshunt did go over again but Ignatians had built enough of a cushion and were deserved
winners on an occasion that was far more important than the outcome of a rugby game.

The ‘Academy’ recently held their awards’ dinner at the clubhouse and the winners were Luke Roper (Players’ Player), Gethin Cason (most improved), Ryan Ratigan (Coaches’ Player of the Year) and Kaya Atkin (Chris Gill award).

The title winning U16s jointly held their awards’ ceremony with their Academy counterparts, and the victors were Jaden (Forward of the year), Oscar (Best Back division player), Philip (Coaches Player of the Year) and Josh C (unsung hero).

The Jack Petchey award winners were Ira and James.
