The Enfield Ignatians U14s are flying at present and the blue and golds’ two teams were in imperious form, having finished first and second in the U14s Chichester Challenge Cup, West Sussex, on Sunday 13 April.
Enfield Ignatians 2s topped the pile, having successively mastered Chichester, Worthing 1s and Worthing 2s, which set up a grand finale against Enfield Ignatians 1s, but which was settled as a 0-0 draw as the tourists’ tight itinerary meant that they had to move on.
The Enfield Ignatians 1s team will also reflect on a good innings. They suffered their solitary defeat against Worthing 2s, but wins against Worthing 1s and Chichester ensured that they were second overall in the round robin tournament.
Ignatians also experienced excellent hospitality 24 hours earlier, having been involved in a tri-tournament at Bognor Regis, with Ignatians’ two teams taking it in turns to beat the hosts.
It set up a grand finale between the tourists two teams, with Team Two ruling the roost at the main expense of Team One.
John Georgiou said: “The weather was fantastic and so, too, were our hosts Bognor Regis. There was some wonderful play from our boys and it was a very enjoyable morning. We were also able to present a memento of our visit (a small EIRFC shield) to our hosts."
(U15S) The Enfield Ignatians U15s, beaten by Upminster in the run-up to Christmas, turned the tables in the return fixture, having shaded a humdinger 34-33 against very spirited opposition at Donkey Lane on Sunday April 13.
The U15s, fresh from a successful tour to Kent, ran in four tries before the break to lead 22-7, but a sterling Upminster fightback narrowed the gap to a solitary point.
