Claire Butcher Flies the Flag for Club and County

A First for Middx and EIRFC

It was a tough game but great to be playing
- Claire
Claire, currently captain of the developing senior women's team, made history when she represented Middx Veterans (Women) against Hertfordshire Veterans (Women) at Harpenden recently.
It was the first time the County had fielded a Vets Women team and Claire was a significant player, and sporting our club shorts and socks.
Claire was playing second row, a position she enjoyed with some great success when she played regularly for Saracens Women along side Maggie Alphonsi. The team was selected from ten clubs across Middlesex including London Welsh and Hampstead and the game itself was a hard fought tussle. Throughout Claire demonstrated she had not lost her touch of hard running and carrying the ball and eventually helped to see Middlesex over in the line in a close fought victory.
Not content with playing in the tough contact of a 15-aside game, Claire is also the captain of the Club's Cheddars team (Mixed Touch Rugby for seniors), who have their next round of fixtures at Home on Wednesday 3rd June: opposition Saracens, Old Albanians, Hemel Hempstead (KO 7.30pm).
