(Girls rugby) An Enfield Tigers septet were involved in two Middlesex U16s county games against Berkshire at the weekend. Both teams lost against strong opposition outfits.

The players in question were Amy Giddins, Mollie Doran, Emily Cameron, Pretty Anoyke, Gabby Nnadozie, Aysha-Rei Richards and Rosie John.

NIAMH GALLAGHER, the former Enfield Tiger, played a pivotal role in the Ealing Trailfinders' 26-26 away draw with Bristol in the Women's Premiership last Saturday (Feb 7).

In addition to laying on a try for team-mate Vicky Laflin, Niamh converted three of the visitors' four tries, including a 79th minute effort which enabled Ealing to share the spoils.

Earning a Rugby Paper rating of 7/10, one of Niamh's three kicks which bisected the uprights, was a difficult angled attempt.

(U16S) The U16s further cemented their title ambitions following a hard-fought 28-20 away win against Welwyn in Hertfordshire.

In a game played in muddy conditions, the much changed line-up of the visitors led 21-13 at the interval following tries by Patrick, Chenitha and Matteo, variously converted by Harry and Patrick.

The visitors were certainly subject to a stiff examination in the second period, and it was only with less than five minutes on the clock that Ollie G (converted by Patrick) claimed the all important bonus point try.

Welwyn, having scored a converted try in the first period, and added a brace of penalties via their very adept kicker, ended the game in all out attack mode, and with the visitors having also picked up a yellow card for their pains, it was all hands to the pump.

Ignatians really put their bodies on the line and defended heroically, but the waves of attacks kept on coming, and with the tiring visitors eventually slipping off tackles, Welwyn inevitably claimed their second and deserved try, very late in the day.

Coach Steve Corcoran: "We got involved in an arm wrestle in the second period. We also made some bad choices which raised questions about our game management. However, the team really dug-in during the last ten to 15 minutes of the game."

This age group have won all six of their league games and claimed maximum 30 points to date. They will wrap up their campaign against Verulamian RFC on March 1.

Rob 'Hold the Back Page' Painter will provide a full report on the game later in the week.

(U13S) The U13s had a good time of it after winning won three of their four games on the 4G pitch under lights at Cheshunt RFC on Friday evening (Feb 6).

Each team was required to play three 15-minute games with Ignatians winning both their games against Hertford and one against Cheshunt. Their only loss came in the finale when they lost against another team from Cheshunt.

Ignatians clearly put their prior experience of the synthetic surface to good use, having won a game at the Stonex Stadium on the Saracens v Newcastle Red Bulls undercard in January.

Coach Barri Morgan-Jones: “From the head coach’s perspective, it was arguably the players’ best performance of the season.”

(ENFIELD TIGERS FEB 8) The National Cup semi-final at Norwich, which had been due to feature an Enfield Tigers U18s' contingent as part of the 'Welwyn' cluster, has been postponed. As soon as we have an update on future developments we will let you know.
