SPENCER TINDALE has kindly written an article on last Sunday's Youth Fun Day, which has been been published below.

YOUTH FUN DAY PROVES A BIG HIT

Christmas Cheers.

Twas a week before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.

But the children were not nestled all snug in their beds,
For they had rugby balls bouncing off their heads…..

The playing fields at the club were alive with noise this Sunday as the Youth Section decked out in Christmas hats, a mixture of kit and of course many pairs of those famous “Pink Socks” took to the pitches to compete in a sack full of fun games to close out the first half of the season.

The weather was not snowing, but bright sunshine blessed our day, as the coaches set up a variety of stations for each age group to stop at and play.

All games had a Christmas theme, the kids and many parents did their share, as they went to each station to see what was there.

The course started with Martin Baker as Santa with his Reindeer relay, before they moved on to Christmas Shenanigans and then to Rob the Robins Nest as quick as they dare. Then came JG and his Elf’s Assault Course before The Snowball Dodge in a classic game of Bulldog and of course to finish the event they all had to Pull the Toy Sack on to the Sleigh.

Screams of delight and much cheering could be heard all around as everyone got into the spirit of the day. When all the stations were visited, the many kids of the Youth Section gathered for a photo and cheered in Christmas in our own Enfield, Enfield, ENFIELD way.

To the clubhouse we then headed for Hotdogs and Hot Chocolate, while the parents munched down on Mince Pies and Mulled Wine with Christmas well and truly on the way.

While the clubhouse was full, Steve Baldwin presented our latest winners of the Jack Petchey Award with their certificates. Rhys Williams who has done amazing work to recruit and help coach players into the U15’s that he plays with. Also receiving an award was Megan Cawte-Davey who’s dedication to the minis can be seen every Sunday as she coaches U8’s (U7’s/ U6’s if required) and then jumps into the kitchen to help out there.

Debbie & Jeff’s kitchen team once again pulled out the stops and not one but two raffles raised money for the Youth Section from which we were able to donate £100 to JRDF - the only charity to work to improve lives for children living with Type 1 Diabetes and to fund research into a cure. One of our U10’s has been living with this condition for 2 years now.

Please keep an eye out for the just giving link coming soon, for David (Father of the U10’s player) who is running the London Marathon next year for this great cause.

So to all the Players & Parents, on behalf of all the coaches, we would like to wish you All.

A Merry, Merry, MERRY Christmas & A Happy New Year!
