HAROLD AND MOOSE VIDEO ROCKETS PAST THE SIX MILLION MARK
A music video which will raise vital funds for the NHS, the brainchild of ten residents of a quiet suburban Enfield street, including two members of Enfield Ignatians RFC Harold Pritchard and Steve Renny, has gone viral after receiving six million plus hits globally.
Reprising the 1970s Village People smash hit “Y.M.CA.” in costume, while at the same time having to respect social distancing, presents its own set of unique challenges, but the group could hardly have anticipated the impact of the video initially posted on Facebook and You Tube.
For it literally became an overnight sensation and it has since featured on Good Morning Britain (with Lorraine Kelly), BBC Breakfast and the Jeremy Vine Show amongst others, in addition to attracting interest from networks in Australia and the US.
Harold Pritchard, part of the self-styled Bin Boys group, said: “It’s crazy really. We’ve had so much interest from it and even the original Village People group themselves have been in touch and congratulated us.
“We had subsequent 11 offers from people offering to be our agents before finally signing up with Ladbible. It’s early days yet and, so far, pledges have amounted to in excess of |£2000, but that’s not taking into account royalties and so the final pot will be higher.
“We have all raided our wardrobes (and those of our wives!) to see what we could cobble together [as regards the costumes}. We simply can’t believe the response and the joy it has given so many people.”
So how did it all get off the ground? The ten neighbours are part of a social chat group which have been supporting each other lockdown, before the idea was mooted that they should liven up procedings by staging their ‘costumed’ act on bin night (Tuesday evening).
The ‘Bin Boys’ had a dress rehearsal of sorts on April 7th by strutting their stuff to the strains of the ‘Queen’ hit ‘I Want to Break Free’ before seizing their big moment a week later.
They have since morphed into the Spice Girls (April 21st) (10,000 plus hits) and are planning on continuing their weekly show, including on April 28th, so as raise further funds for the NHS.
In addition to Harold and Steve, the ‘Bin Boys’ also comprises Paddy, Neil, Paul, Simon, John, Sohom, Jack and Tim. Any monies will be gratefully received and donations can be made via the http://www.justgiving.com/binboys link.
