Details of League For 2021-2022 and Plans for 2022-2023 - Update

It's great to now have some certainty about where we will be playing. It will help recruitment and planning
- Jake Bates - Club Captain

As you know there has been much discussion about the future of the male adult game. Following recent RFU decisions and an announcement today from the RFU we can now confirm the position as it impacts on our Club. If there are further changes, they will be published when they are known.

2021 - 2022
- Season will run from 25th September 2021 - 23rd April 2022. This means a long preseason if clubs start in the first week of July.
- The leagues will follow the pattern of the end of season ending 2019 - 2020. This means we will be in London North West 2 promoted along with Old Streetonians. Other teams: Hampstead, Hemel Hempstead, Datchworth, Hackney etc
- There will be no relegation for this season.
- Difficult to judge how many teams will be going up for the 2022/23 season but promotion is likely to guaranteed: but other clubs will go up in every league to support the flattening of the pyramid and the increase in the umber of leagues at each level.
- Fixtures for sides in the RFU Leagues (1st Team) will be announced on 1st June
- Fixtures for Merit Tables (2nd and 3rd) to follow
- There will be no National Cup Matches
- There will be a two week break over Christmas and New Year
- Weekends of 4th,11th and 18th September will be put aside either for CBs (Middx. County) cups or where clubs prefer friendlies

2022 - 2023
- Season will run from early September as before
- There will be 12 teams in the league: same as now for us
- From this season only one team will be promoted.
- The composition of the league will not be known until after the end of the previous season, due to reorganisation at national and local level.
- Levels 5 & 6 leagues will follow a new RFU regional model.
- Level 7 leagues and below will follow a similar pattern to current arrangements with clubs playing across CB boundaries (for us this would mean continuing to play with clubs from Herts and Middx unless promoted).
- 2nd teams from clubs at Level 3 &4 will be allowed to enter the leagues (Details and criteria not known at the moment). There will be a ceiling for these teams at Level 7
- The cup competition will be held at the end of the season and clubs will not have to commit until January of the season. The level of competition will be determined by where the club finished at the end of league season.
- There will be a two week break over Christmas and New Year and protected weekend
breaks (at points to be determined through the season).
- A rapid review of competition structures will take place every three years.
