JOSH C ACHIEVES HIS DREAM OF REPRESENTING DENMARK

writes Jonathan Landi

The sky is the limit at present for Josh Corgan who represented the Denmark U18s side in the 21-19 victory over Sweden in a training game played between the two sides at Copenhagen last Saturday (Sept 5).

Eligible to play for Denmark on account of his mother being a Danish national, it also marked a further step of the rugby ladder for the player after a stellar campaign with the EIRFC Academy, in addition to being capped at county level for Middlesex.

In an exciting encounter, Denmark just about prevailed – only a missed conversion separated the two teams at the final whistle – with Josh featuring in the build-up to two of the three Danish tries.

This was very much a sparring exercise prior to the international between the teams in Sweden in October – a game which the player will be hoping to be in the mix for as regards selection.

Josh also took part in his first training session with the Danish age group at the Rugbyklubben Speed (Copenhagen) in the lead up to the game.

Andy Corgan, Josh’s father, takes up the story: “The Danish U18s played a game against the Cheshunt Academy at the end of last season. I contacted the Cheshunt coach to ask how that [game had] came about and to obtain contact details [in] Denmark.

“I subsequently wrote to the relevant contacts in Denmark. They got straight back to me and we’ve been trying to get something sorted out [for] most of the summer.

“It also marked Josh’s first training session with the Danish squad in Copenhagen which, and was followed by a training game between Denmark and the Swedish Exiles – most of whom play in the Swedish U18s’ team.”
