SENIOR RUGBY NEWS: SIX NATIONS/U16s/ENFIELD TIGERS/MINIS UPDATES/PLAY OFFS
(Six Nations/7 February) The club will be showing the following Six Nations games, Italy v Scotland (14.10 kick-off) and England v Wales (16.40 ko), at the club house on Saturday 7 February.
The bar will, of course, be open, and the games will be shown on three screens.
(ENFIELD TIGERS FEB 8) The National Cup semi-final at Norwich, which had been due to feature an Enfield Tigers U18s' contingent as part of the 'Welwyn' cluster, has been postponed. As soon as we have an update on future developments we will let you know.
(JUNIOR SECTION FEB 8) These are exciting times for the U16s, and the unbeaten front runners in Herts-Middlesex Division are away to Welwyn in their penultimate league game. The game kicks off at noon.
The address of Welwyn RFC is Hobbs Way, Welwyn Garden City, Herts, AL8 6HX.
(MINIS FEB 8) The minis (U7s to U12s) are away to Wanstead.
The address of Wanstead RFC is Centenary Fields, Roding Lane North, Woodford Green, Essex 1G8 8JY.
(U13s/6 February) The U13s are involved in a tri-mini tournament involving teams from hosts Cheshunt and Hertford on Friday 6 February. Each game will last 15 mintes off a five-minute turnaround.
(Play offs) ENFIELD IGNATIANS end their current round of league fixtures when they conclude away to Harrow on February 14, after which the current Counties Two Middlesex division will divide in two and revert to a play-off format.
The top four teams, currently Hackney, Barnet Elizabethans, Kilburn Cosmos and Harrow, will form the top half of the league draw and they will play each other on a home and away basis for the league trophy.
Ditto the sides ranked fifth to eighth in the table. Irrespective of the outcome against Harrow on February 14, Ignatians will be in the second half of the draw, as they can only amass a maximum 33 points which wouldn’t be enough to propel them into the top four.
So, as things stand, Ignatians rivals will be squaring up to Finsbury Park and Old Millhillians and, almost certainly, Actonians, in the Shield half of the play-offs for which there is a trophy.
The league secretary has also pointed out the following:
• Fixtures may be played on Friday nights (by agreement).
• Any agreement to reverse a fixture must be received by Monday February 16.
• Please note that April 25 is the 'Next Available Weekend' date.
The provisional dates for the ‘Shield’ plays-offs are as follows.
Provisional Phase 2 Fixtures (TBC): Shield:
February 28: Enfield Ignatians v Finsbury Park; Old Millhillians v Actonians.
March 7: Actonians v Finsbury Park; Old Millhillians v Enfield Ignatians.
March 21: Enfield Ignatians v Actonians; Finsbury Park v Old Millhillians.
