SENIOR/JUNIOR/GIRLS' RUGBY/ RUGBY: FEB 23-25

The rapidly improving U16s had former Fijian international Sekonaia Kalou as their referee, and they delivered a confident performance after mastering the league higher Ealing B 26-12 at Donkey Lane on Sunday February 25.

The hosts ran in four tries via King, Ryan (two) and Emanuel. The latter also added three conversions.

A full report on the game will be published in due course.

The U15s travelled to Cheshunt hoping to avenge their 15-10 league loss at the backend of 2023, but, in a another close encounter, they again came unstuck 17-7, this time at the Rosedale Sports Club.

The U14s lost their away league clash against Hillingdon Abbotts 34-14 in a game played at Gainsborough Road, Hayes.

The U13s, in the guise of Team One, lost their Pool B league game against Old Grammarians 45-20 at Eton Manor RFC on Friday evening (Feb 23)

In an entertaining contest, Enfield started the match strongly and were very much in the mix at 15-15 as the game reached half time.

Enfield even edged into a 20-15 lead in the second-half. but with a few mistakes creeping into their game and fatigue setting in, Grammarians eventually pulled clear in the last 15 minutes to record a decisiove win.

Coach Dave Russell said: “It was a fantastic game played by two sets of fantastic players.”

Team Two of the same age group lost 35-20 against St Ignatius College in friendly played at Donkey Lane on Saturday (Feb 24) morning.

Enfield started slowly and the College, very well served by their fast and athletic centre in particular – not that he was the only promising prospect on display – exploited the space on offer to forge a 20-0 half-time lead.

With pride at stake, Team Two made a real contest of it in the second and, so much so, that they moved to within a score of St Ignatius at 25-20 down.

However, St Ignatius also heeded the wake up call and, playing some lovely rugby, they added a further two tries to the ledger to run out handsome winners.

Dave Russell added: “The players enjoyed some food together afterwards and coach John G gave them an open invite [St Igantius] to come down and join the club, while also highlighting, via the honours board, that their school coach, Mr Roach, was once the clubs’s [EIRFC] 1st XV captain.”

(GIRLS' RUGBY) The Enfield Tigers' U16s played really well despite the 24-5 defeat to Fullerians, and the same applies to the Enfield Tigers' U18s team which lost 36-24 to Basildon.
(SENIOR RUGBY) Enfield Ignatians lost their away league game against Ruislip 76-17 on Saturday, February 24. A full report will be published in due course.
