It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that the Club announce the unexpected passing yesterday of Steve "Quincy" Ward.
Steve never played for the Club but was a great supporter of Enfield Ignatians RFC, both the Youth Section and Senior Section, for over 25 years. He was also a pretty enthusiastic tourist having made lifelong friends of all who toured with him on the Club's tours to South Africa in 2013 and Canada in 2022.
For those that knew Steve he always had a smile on his face and regarded EIRFC as his family home in the South. Hailing from Sheffield and living in Reading, his love for our Club and all things rugby met distance was never a problem. He would be first on the list to support our club: often seen on a Saturday afternoon cheering on the senior side, and then again on the Sunday Morning supporting the Youth Section, before travelling West down the A4.
Steve was a true family man and he leaves behind him his dad David, his sister Karen, and his brother Richard: along with his nephews Connor and Carter, and his niece Sophie.
Our thoughts and prayers are with them and all his friends at this difficult time.
RIP Steve "Quincy" Ward
1965 - 2026
(Editor's note: Steve acquired the "pseudonym" Quincy after the character played by Jack Klugman, who reprised title role in the series of the same name which run on TV from 1976 - 1983. If you had ever been in a quiz with Steve, you would know why!)
