ENFIELD IGNATIANS IIIs 16 - BLACK HORSE 1s 46 HERTS-MIDDLESEX MERIT TABLE THREE

Despite the magnitude of the scoreline captain Steve Renny is looking forward rather than backward, and he was particularly pleased with the form of his young blades, two of whom scored, against last season's Herts-Middlesex Merit Table Four champions Black Horse.

Curiously, all the senior games at the weekend followed a similar pattern, as each of the blue and gold teams allowed the opposition to build up a fair head of steam in the first-half - and this encounter was no different.

In a niggly game, Black Horse continued in the ascendancy for much of the first 40 minutes, and the dominant visitors, having built up a healthy lead, never really looked back. However, the blue and golds had their moments as denoted by a well-taken try from the up-and coming Farhad Fayaz, who also crossed against Barnet the previous weekend, and a penalty from the boot of Sam Barnes.

The second-half, in marked contrast, was a far tighter affair. Far less inclined to be generous to the opposition, Ignatians' defensive effort was no less than resolute, and, if they can build on this in coming weeks, then they will surely test sides.
Responding to the power of eight in both halves, Ignatians claimed a second try from another player sourced from the youth section, Mason Parker-Collom (pictured). Steve Renny said: "He was playing out of position at centre but he is certainly quick on his feet."

Barnes also chipped-in with a second penalty. Although the player was also yellow carded, and with the team also losing Adonis Kleanthous to a knee injury, they were, at one point reduced to 13 men.

Steve Renny said: "Victories are never easy at this level and are often hard-won. It's something I reminded the boys of and, so, we will enjoy them when they come. Black Horse won the league last season and it was always going to be tough. Our next game is against Hendon and we will be looking forward to that."
