The Enfield Playing Fields crackled and fizzled to the beat of junior and girls’ rugby today (Sunday March 24), and the teams are to be congratulated for a whole host of excellent results which reflected the warm, spring-like conditions.

It also a good reflection of our coaches and it seems pertinent, too, to thank all the parents who support their sons and daughters’ rugby ambitions on a weekly basis.

The U16s lorded their encounter with Ruislip B 50-21 (full report now published). In control throughout, they ran in eight tries – five of which were converted.

For the record, the try scorers were Emmanuel (four), James V (two), Luke R and Liam. Emmanuel also added five conversions.

The U15s also enjoyed their morning at Donkey Lane by turning the tables on Old Grammarians, who had beaten them in January, by 41-17, which was primarily a training game split over three periods of 20 minutes.

Grammarians blooded a number of ‘development players’ but Ignatians held the whip hand throughout, with the excellent Lewis (three tries), Philip (two), James and Josh all crossing the whitewash. Lewis also added three conversions. A full report has now been published.

The U14s also strutted their stuff. They were involved in hard-fought draw with Basildon 24-24 in the pre-Christmas period, but they cut loose on this occasion after dominating their Essex rivals 50-7 in the return leg.

The U13s were also in fine fettle. Team One set the tone with a dominant 50-10 win over Woodford on Friday evening (March 22) at Donkey Lane, and Team Two similarly caught the mood with a 40-10 win over Upminster at the same venue 36 hours later.

(Girls’ rugby) The highpoints for the Enfield Tigers were the U16s win over their Old Reigatians counterparts 43-34, whereas the U18s, clustering with Watford and playing in their colours, mastered Finchley 41-22.

The U14s played some good rugby but ultimately the power of Brentwood shone through 38-22, whereas the U12s’ cluster side of Ignatians and Grammarians suffered a 60-40 reverse against the combined forces of Harlow and Woodford in an entertaining game.
