On Sunday the U13’s were invited to participate in the Maldon RFC maiden waterfall tournament, which was an absolutely fantastic experience. Each of the two Enfield teams were placed in one of the 4 pools, comprising 4 teams in each.

Team 1 romped through their 3 games, topping their pool, progressing to the main cup semi final. Those games included impressive victories over Witham (55-0), Epping (25-5) and Harlow (35-10).

Team 2, light on numbers due to the Easter holidays, formed a barbarians team with our neighbours Old Grammarian’s and had a tougher morning finishing in 4th place but still progressed to the plate semi final. Team 2's pool saw them pitched against the likes of Chelmsford (2nd ranked team in Essex), Saffron Walden and Hadleigh. The Hadleigh game was a particularly close affair, with Team 2 being pipped 10-5.

With the taste of further silverware to a season already adorned with plenty, both teams saved their best efforts for the semi finals. Team 1 were up against the reigning Hertfordshire County champions Bishop Stortford RFC, and pulled out a huge performance to win 20-5. Team 2 continued the feel good factor, dominating Burnham RFC 40-5.

After a long hot day and the injuries piling up Team 1 entered the final with just 12 players and Team 2 found themselves in a similar position. Both teams gave massive performances yet fell short of the big prizes, Team 1 being rewarded with the U13 Runners Up Cup and Team 2 with the U13 Runners Up Plate.

Every single player did their coaches, parents, the club and most importantly themselves proud.

After a full day of such efforts from everyone it is always difficult to highlight names but for effort, desire, resilience and outstanding individual contribution the coaches selected.
Team 1 players of the day: Noah and John
Team 2 players of the day: Adam and Sam

As a club we would like to put on record the superb efforts from Maldon RFC to raise the bar offering a wonderful day that will be hard to top.
