SARACENS U16s: 26 - ENFIELD IGNATIANS U16s: 7

It proved to be a tough division two baptism of fire for the U16s as the local Derby convincingly went the way of Saracens after the Bramley Road outfit out-scored the visitors four tries to one on their home patch.

Not that Ignatians didn't have their chances. However, they frittered away their hard-won possession by making mistakes and, consequently, the more incisive Sarries pounced to lead 14-0 at the break.

Ignatians threw themselves a lifeline by claiming the first score of the second period via Dimitris Ndanaj, and spirits soared further following a cracking effort from Daniel Redding as regards landing the tricky conversion attempt. However, Sarries had no intention of allowing Ignatians back into the game after that. They promptly shut the trap-door firmly in the visitors' faces and surged further ahead on the scoreboard by rifling off a two-try salvo which killed off any pretentions of a comeback.

Coach Colin Pennicott said: "The score line doesn't quite reflect the quality of the game. We struggled at times to get into the Sarries' 22. We also had our chances but we also made costly mistakes with our handling although, to their credit, the boys kept playing and never gave up.We came here with a squad of 18 and our resources were also tested as we picked up a few injuriesduring the game. We weren't at full strength, which explains why the game went to uncontested scrums from the outset. However, there are certainly things to work-on."
