THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY…
ENFIELD IGNATIANS U16s 21 AYLESBURY U16S 27
The Enfield Ignatians’ U16s side gave a good account of themselves but ultimately let a winning opportunity pass them by after giving visiting Aylesbury too much rope in the early part of the game.
For it was concession of two tries, one the product of a careless error, that put the visitors on the front foot, and although outside centre, Emanuel (St Ignatius College), a big presence in this game, fired back with a touchdown, they still trailed 12-5 at the break.
However, it was at least a way back into the game and, in an even contest, and despite two further tries from the hat-trick completing Emanuel, all of which were converted, the well-drilled visitors just about kept their noses in front to secure a six points’ win.
From an Ignatians’ perspective, Luke R caught the eye with some good tackles, and James V played a blinder which warranted the Man of the Match accolade.
Coach Andy Roper said: “There were moments when we attacked the Aylesbury line but just couldn’t get over [the whitewash]. I felt that we were the better side and should have won it, only for Aylesbury to crowd out us out at key moments. We also showed a lack of discipline at the breakdown.”
