Stiffer league tests lie further down the road. However, the U16s continue to motor along nicely, and their second league win (from three), resulted in a comprehensive 45-5 defeat of Barnet Elizabethans B at Donkey Lane on Sunday, November 26, writes Jonathan Landi.

By no means the finished article, the squad have worked hard in boosting their fitness levels in the wake of the Harpenden B defeat both as a squad and individually, and there are genuine signs, too, that they’re proving more cohesive on the field, if this game is any indicator.

The constant ability to absorb anything the visitors could throw at them by turning defence into attack served them mightily and fullback James V was the first to cross, with the same player, who loves to run the ball back at the opposition, also helping himself to a second try later in the game.

Gabriel, too, had a very good game and particularly as a creator, as he turned provider on more than occasion, and Ryan proved the chief beneficiary by claiming Ignatians’ second try.

The same player also played a role in unleashing the game’s defining attacking force, Emanuel, as the latter had a field day by scoring a bonanza four tries, which with the bonus of five conversions, made for a very productive morning’s work.

Head coach Andy Roper said: “I think that our lineout functioned much better and having Kia back made a big difference. He’s also a very good support player. We’re learning as we gone along and we have a fixture planned (v Cheshunt) on Sunday (Dec 3).”
