U16S CONTINUE IN RUDE HEALTH FOLLOWING BIG WIN AT LUTON

They could easily have remained in dry dock after their intended league game was cancelled. Instead, the U16s picked up an 11th hour friendly and they made the opportunity pay off handsomely following a resounding 40-14 away win over Luton.

The contest initially revolved fiercely around the breakdown as both sides squared up to each in the contact area, but it was the visitors which broke the deadlock after number eight William intercepted a loose Luton pass before racing the length of the field to score.

Ignatians again successfully weathered a spell of Luton pressure and, after working their way up-field, they successfully drove over the line, with Emanuel forcing his way past a number of would be tacklers to claim the score.

The latter again added the extras and, although Luton came back on the scoreline with a try of their own, Ignatians shaded an even first-half 14-7.

However, that was as close as it got, as following a great kick from Lescine, which the visitors regathered, Ignatians were able to maintain their attacking momentum, as William again drove over the line to complete his brace. Emanuel again converted.

It was all Ignatians at this point and the rampant visitors killed the game off as a contest after running-in three more tries via James, Ryan B and Ryan M.

Ignatians got a bit sloppy once the job had been completed as Luton claimed a consolation score, but otherwise head coach Andy Roper was happy with his side’s performance. “Overall, it was a great show of skill and strength [from the team],” he said.
