Under 16s miss out at the death
The U16s travelled hopefully to Aylesbury and they certainly excelled as ambassadors for the club despite the agonising 12-10 loss in this friendly fixture on Sunday 2 February.
Slow to get into their stride, the damage from Ignatians’ perspective was done either side of half-time when Aylesbury claimed both their tries, one of which was converted, as the hosts sailed into a 12-0 lead.
Although it was far from an insurmountable handicap, and the breakthrough when it came occurred in the final ten minutes when Ignatians at last hit their stride, with Cassius rumbling over from a textbook rolling maul.
Ignatians continued to play some quality rugby and some neat interplay involving Jayden and the winger resulted in the former bursting over for another well-worked score.
None of the conversions were particularly easy and so the leather fail to reach its target. However, Ignatians were afforded a final opportunity to win the game after winning a penalty in front of the sticks which alas was hooked wide.
Head coach Andy Corgan said: “Our support play was good and it was good to see the team execute their running moves. However, we weren’t effective at the breakdown as we should have been and the team made too many handling errors. Our ball presentation also needs some working on. We also some positive feedback from Aylesbury as to how well the players conducted themselves which is always encouraging."
