Hot Dogs Return To Donkey Lane!

There was a buzz around Donkey Lane as the rumours circulated that the kitchen refurbishment had been completed and hotdogs would again be available. The children were not disappointed, especially many of the Under 6s who were enjoying their hot dogs for the first time. Not surprisingly, the strong smell of extra tomato ketchup hung over the playing fields for some time after their fun session.

The other Minis played in the first of a Tri Tournament with Old Grammarians and Fullerians, with the matches for various age groups split between Donkey Lane and World's End Lane, the home of Old Grammarians.

The Under 7s, under the watchful eye of new coach Mateusz Platt and ably supported by Ian Berry of Grammarians, provided a series of training activities which will allow the players, even the very new ones, to be getting ready for the new year when they will be ready to play in competitive fixtures.

The Under 8s were on the road again and fielded two teams. All the games were more intense than the outing to Letchworth last month and in took both teams a while to settle into a rhythm. By the end all the players were taking great tags in defence and working hard to take quick passes after being tagged themselves. William Anderson was judged star of the week and awarded the prestigious "Milo" for his perseverance and hard work.

The Under 9s were the youngest age group to host the visitors. Their coach Jeremy Wells was really pleaded to see how everyone has progressed and how they are beginning to play as a team. Particular congratulations went to Megan and Anthony for getting Players of the Week.

The Under 10s were another age group who enjoyed a successful away trip. Demonstrating some great attacking flair and defensive resilience both Ignatians teams played brilliantly, showing that the hard work over the summer months has really paid off. Everyone of the players did amazingly well against some tough opponents, and the the coaching team were incredibly proud as always of the commitment shown.

The U11s hosted a Core Values festival, with 10 teams from Enfield Ignatians, Cheshunt, Eton Manor and Finchley, each competing for a chance to win the Cup or Plate competition. Points were awarded for the RFU core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship, along with scoring the most tries. After a fantastic morning of rugby the Enfield Ignatians Vikings triumphed in a tense Cup final against the Finchley Lions. The Plate competition was shared between the Cheshunt Bulls and the Eton Manor Eagles after a tied game. A full report (in the Under 11s) will follow along with photos of the festival.

The Under 12s were the oldest of the age groups to be at Enfield in the Tri Tournament. There were four very close matches with some big tackles and fantastic tries. An enjoyable morning of rugby was had by all. Head Coach Dave " Alfie" Hitchcock said it was great to be back to rugby and see the kids enjoying themselves on a Sunday morning.
