It proved to be another brilliant afternoon of rugby for the Enfield Tigers after another bold showing, this time against Eton Manor, at Wanstead last Sunday (May 16), writes Jonathan Landi.
As the Tigers, up against the best team they have faced on the girls’ circuit so far, rose to the occasion by again showcasing their burgeoning skills. Their great team spirit, on and off the pitch, also shone through,
The games were played under Ready4Rugby Rules and an U13s side, containing a sprinkling of U11s players, put up a superb show as they combined to win their two games by an aggregate score of 18-14.
The U15s also did themselves proud and, particularly when taking into account that the odds were against them, as their squad was reduced to 11 after one of the players was sidelined during the first game after suffering a thumb injury.
Given that they were up against a far bigger Eton Manor squad numerically, they performed heroically in the 7-5 and 5-4 defeats. Every single player in the team made an important contribution, and the team spirit within the side resulted in some great team tries.
The U18s later pooled their resources with Eton Manor and played a mixed game. Involved in a much faster paced game than they are used to, they competed well and showcased their skills with some good scores.
Finally, a huge well done to the girls, and a massive thank you to our parents (and supporting photographers) for their support. Little wonder, then, that the coaching team were beaming with pride when it was all done and dusted.
