DEVELOPMENT TEAM GIVES A GOODD ACCOUNT OF ITSELF AGAINST THE BEDFORDSHIRE VISITORS
ENFIELD IGNATIANS DEVELOPMENT TEAM 17 AMPTHILL IVs 53
Firstly, a bit pat on the back to all those that answered the call. We didn’t quite have a full complement of players, but we were at least able to take to the field, although our depleted front row resources meant that the game went uncontested in the scrum from the get go, writes Jonathan Landi.
For the record the blue and golds scored three tries via Femi Adeosun (twice) and Man of the Match Johan. Calum Middleton added the extras, and we also had a try disallowed, - so there was plenty of encouragement to be had from what was brave and game effort from the blue and golds.
Phil Tucker said: “We set ourselves small targets and we certainly exceeded our first half goal of scoring a try by claiming a brace, and, in the second-half, we were aiming to reach the 20-points marker. That we were only three points shy of this bodes well, and particularly as we had a try disallowed.
We also concentrated on defending around the fringes and ensuring that nothing got through the middle. Ampthill claimed a fair few tries out wide and so there were positives were to be had in this area too.”
Ignatians took to the field with 12 players, compared to the opposition’s 13, and although this was numerically evened up, Ampthill were
deserved winners.
Another big thank you to Ken Carroll, for whom organising our second and third teams has almost become a secondary occupation this season, but the mere fact that we were able to field two senior teams is another step in the right direction.
