LEAGUE LEADERS SHOW THEIR PEDIGREE

LEAGUE LEADERS SHOW THEIR PEDIGREE

Alex Harris1 Feb 2016 - 13:55

Writes Jonathan Landi

The last time these two sides met there was only a score in it. However, Hertford IVs aren't the league leaders for
nothing and they carried too many guns for visiting Ignatians in the return leg at Hoe Lane.

Smartly into their stride, a well drilled Herford, strong in all departments, took a fierce grip of proceedings and a
well-oiled machine ruthlessly clicked into gear with a three try salvo which yielded a 21-0 lead.

To their credit, Ignatians bravely chased the game. They never gave up even when the chips were down, and
were rewarded when some quick-thinking from Carl Asare-Anderson, who ran a quick tap penalty, and the upshot was a first try at senior level for one of the youngsters in the side, Alex McCall.

These have certainly been productive times for the player who, earlier in the month, celebrated his first try for the club when crossing the whitewash in the U18s' demolition of Fullerians B.

The second-half was of similar ilk as Hertford cashed-in their chips by adding a further 21 points to the ledger. Not that the blue and golds ever lied down and the visitors were eventually rewarded when a deft kick-through was exploited by Rondel Bernard to reach double figures.

Spokesman Paul Duke said: "We were up against a very good side. However, a number of players acquitted themselves well including Adam Murphy, Brad Smith (playing out of position), Andy Roper (on the wing) and new recruit, James Temple, who recently joined the club."
