The threes, given precious little time to prepare after a mix-up over kick-off times, were initially caught cold and, after seeing little of the ball, found themselves trailing 22-5 at the interval, one of the few bright spots being a try from Damon Rodney.
It did feel a whole lot better after the break although, ironically, Ignatians failed to add to the ledger. Not that a skilful Hemel side had such problems as the Hertfordshire outfit moved up a gear or two to add a further 24 points.
Captain Bish Galloway, bemoaning that his side had only ten minutes to warm-up because of an administrative blip, said: "Mentally, it took us ten minutes to get our game heads on and, initially, it felt as if we were disorientated. Hemel were certainly a lively outfit with a good fly-half and number eight, and we had precious little possession in the first 40 minutes.
"We also suffered from the lack of a specialist hooker although Harry Bowman, playing out of position in that area, did all he could.”
The threes are now targeting league salvation and a cup run in the second tier in of the competion as a means of getting something out of their season.
