THREES GAIN SECOND LEAGUE WIN

The threes capitalised on St Albans' inability to field a full front row, and with the game going to uncontested scrums, it was inevitable that the physicality of the Ignatians' heavy cavalry were always going to have an important bearing on the result.

Si it proved and, although Ignatians bossed the contact areas, they trailed 10-8 at the interval after claiming a try from Donny and a successful penalty from Xavier Babington.

Ignatians effectively got out of jail in the second period when they claimed further tries from Donny and Lewis Ward. A brace of Babington conversions ensured that the blue and golds shaded a narrow three point win.

Team spokesman Steve Renny said: "We kept it in the forwards and used the pack to rumble the ball forward. We tested St Albans with our pick up and gos and got the win."
