HERTS-MIDDLESEX MERIT TABLE FOUR NORTH-EAST
UNDERPOWERED THREES EMERGE WITH THEIR HEADS HELD HIGH
HERTFORD IVs 47 ENFIELD IGNATIANS IIIs 31
They left the clubhouse a little downcast and certainly frustrated. However, the negative emotions gave rise to an altogether more upbeat mood after threes delivered a combative performance against Hertford IVs at Hoe Lane.
Forced to make the journey up the A10 with a dozen players for one reason and another, they were to a degree reliant on the generosity of their hosts who kindly loaned three of their players.
Not that the challenge ended there as Ignatians with, a number of players playing out of position, and in a side featuring six props, were certainly up against it.
Despite this, they pulled together splendidly and the rag-taggle army, against the odds, managed to shade the first period before seasoned Hertford IVs dominated after the break and pulled away on the scoreboard.
The blue and golds claimed five tries and four of these were scored before the interval after Harry Masini (two), Seyi Adeosun and Rondel Bernard all crossed for the visitors.
The second period was altogether quieter from Ignatians’ perspective when Adeosun completed his brace.
Ignatians landed three conversions via Masini (two) and Richard Carroll and, if they build on this with a full complement, there are reasons to be optimistic for the rest of the season.
The threes face Barnet Elizabethans IIs at Byng Road on Saturday.
