Reports Jonathan Landi

Captain Steve Renny was very upbeat about the performance of the threes who certainly gave the unbeaten league leaders Finsbury Park a run for the money, as the visitors completed the 'double' over the blue and golds at Donkey Lane.

The skipper said: "Finsbury Park were very complimentary after the game and they said later that this has been the toughest game of the season for them." For the record, the visitors, destined for higher things, are now unbeaten in 12 league games this season and they made the perfect start by running in three tries.

In parts, the blue and golds gave a good as they got and a fine solo effort from Ethan Renny, on the wing, brought matters back to a more manageable 17-5. This was before Finsbury Park, and their speedy backline, hit the jackpot again with a fourth try which yielded a 17 point half-time lead.

The second-half was a more even affair. The lessons of the first-half of not over-committing to the contact area
had been absorbed, and with Ignatians coming more into it as an attacking force, they crafted a very well-worked try which was well taken by pacey young winger, Cairo Sango, making his debut at senior level.

Key here was some good build-up work and the ability to inject some pace on the ball, and coupled to the ability to build through three to four phases, the stage was set for one of the more promising prospects of the championship winning U18s, and Oaklands College pupil, to show his finishing qualities.

Never headed in this game, Finsbury Park went back to the drawing board and pulled out two more tries from the hat.

Ignatians, though, had the last laugh. Ethan Renny continues to grow in every game, both at senior and junior level, and his ability to give the opposition defence the run around was again manifest as he weaved his way past some despairing tackles to add plenty of respectability to the final scoreline,

Two father-son combinations took to the field and, Steve and Ethan Renny aside, the Bucknalls also entered this category via Sean, at hooker, and the younger Alex who certainly bedded-in well at scrum-half.

Steve Renny added: "Alex [Bucknall} normally slots-in at fly-half for the U18s but we drafted him-in at nine.
He gave a very good account of himself and was all over the Finsbury Park scrum-half like a bad rash while
not getting caught in possession himself."

The three have won of seven of their 12 games to date and the aim is to close on a high. "We have five games left
and we were in fourth at the start of play. There is no shortage of enthusiasm in the side and the youngsters all take a keen interest as to when the next game is."
