FULLERIANS IIIs 60 ENFIELD IGNATIANS IIIs 5
An understrength threes were up against it from the start. Taking to the field with just 13 players, including a player kindly loaned from Fullerians, they divided their forces in classical fashion in the form of six forwards and seven backs but were always treading water in their first league game of the season.
Despite the numerical inferiority, the threes made a good fist of it in the first period when they replied to
a Fullers' try with a score from Alex McCall.
However, in a game which went to uncontested scrums from the start, this was always going to be a numbers' game. So it proved as once the Fullers' 15 brought superior numbers to bear, the Herts-side started to run in the tries which explains the disparity on the scoreboard.
Clearly, if the promoted threes are to be competitive at this level, they will need to call on a full squad of 18 for the league games.
Not that it was all doom and gloom and one must salute a solid effort from the over 50s club, namely
Clive Alexander, Bob Ridley, Chris Byrne and the timeless Bori Moll. Your enthusiasm does you great
credit gentlemen.
