Writes Jon Landi

It's been a roller coaster ride so far for the threes in their new division. However, they also say that every cloud has a silver lining, and coming off the back of heavy defeat against Tring, the visitors rediscovered their self-confidence and poise as Welwyn copped the backlash.

Afforded practically a full complement of 16 players - a luxury not always available to them this season - thebusiness-like visitors bossed the first-half off the back of a dominant scrummage and a healthy lead was a fair reward for their labours on the scoreboard.

Not that the tight eight had it all their own way. The blue and golds' all court game also enabled them to score a couple of tries on the wing. Showing good attention to detail, Ignatians were also particularly water-tight at the lineout where Dave French's pinpoint darts ensured that he located the jumpers at will.

The second-half was a more even affair as Welwyn came back more into the game but the mountain
that they had to climb was beyond them, as the kicking of Jack Wilson and Dave Conlan also ensured that the visitors were able to play the game in the right areas of the field.

Admittedly, the team limped somewhat over the line after the injuries sustained by Jason Joseph, Shaun Engelbrecht and Adonis Kleanthous. However, any pain was dulled by the fact that the three had gained their second league win of the season.

As one squad member said: "We were awarded our previous win following the no-show of Letchworth IIIs and this was far more satisfying."
