The threes are hardly the flower of youth. They took to the field with seven 'veterans' in their midst but clearly the mood of enthusiasm and will to win remains undiminished, although it was one of the younger elements in the side, Sam Barnes, who scored the lion's share of the points in the narrow win at Letchworth.
Allthough yellow-carded for a clumsy tackle, it was the fleet-footed winger who sent Ignatians on their way with a succesful penalty strike, and life continued to get better for the blue and golds after another of the young guns, Lewis White, rumbled his way over.
However, Letchworth were always a force to reckoned with and a successful penalty strike ensured that they were still in the game after trailing 8-3 at the interval.
Letchworth continued to ramp up the pressure in the second period and a converted try enabled the hosts to gain a narrow 10-8 lead.
However, this also proved the cue for an Ignatians' revival as the Barnes show resumed. A well taken
try from the winger enabled the visitors to retake the lead, as the winger latched on to a pass from quick-thinking Dan Jones.
The in-fatigable Barnes added the extras but, Ignatians were far from home and hosed, as Letchworth gained a second try which opened the game-up. The hosts continued to run strongly at Ignatians, but the Mister Fifty Percenters of the league held-on.
