BIGGLEWADE IIs 32 ENFIELD IGNATIANS IIIs 7
Captain Steve Renny cut a frustrating figure on the sidelines although he sportingly acknowledged that the threes had been beaten by a quality opposition outfit, which could yet work its way up the league granted the number of games in hand.
Pacey Biggleswade led 10-0 at the break as Ignatians delivered a mix-bag. Renny added: "I thought we defended really well but otherwise our rugby was messy at times."
Determined to set the rights to wrong, and still very much in the hunt, Ignatians upped their game after the interval and successfully worked in Rondel Berrnard. The Paul Duke conversion saw the visitors claw within three points.
Biggleswade reponded with a further try to go 15-7 up and, a protracted period of stalemate ensued after that, before the hosts finally cut loose in the last ten minutes by running in a further three tries as the visitors started to tire.
Steve Renny added: "Our defensive alignment left something to be desired at times. However,
Biggleswade were good at the breakdown and were very good at re-cycling the ball quickly and carving the overlap. They also had an excellent winger who punished us.
"Biggleswade complimented us afterwards by saying that we are the toughest side that they have come across this season in terms of physicality. There was also the feeling that the final score didn't quite reflect the game."
