The result might suggest a comprehensive win for the visitors, but the blue and golds dug-in and gave it a right old go, although ultimately the visitors had too much in their armoury in this rearranged league game, and particularly in their backline.
Despite, a number of players returning to action after a lengthy spell out of the game, they had some decent spells, and were particularly adept as a forward unit, as well as doing well in the lineout, and, against this backdrop, the blue and golds drew first blood.
When Letchworth over-committed numbers to the breakdown, Ignatians found themselves in the very inviting position of a four man overlap, and they made no mistake with Man of the Match Glory Makabukidi tucking away the first of his two tries.
However, Letchworth came roaring back once they had weathered Ignatians’ purple patch, and well served by their fly-half, they put themselves firmly in the driving seat after scoring three tries before the interval.
Ignatians also had their moments after the break and, although they always had it to do, and botched some try scoring opportunities, the
blue and golds managed to twice cross the line via Glory Makabukidi and former first team number eight Wes Warren.
Pressed into against HAC a week earlier, which proved a suffocating experience for all concerned a week earlier, the latter had a lot more room for manoeuvre, and he took his chance well when it came after receiving a return pass.
Scrum-half Anzl Swartz added a conversion.
Captain Steve Renny said: “A few players had been out of the game for quite a while, and Frazer Briers and Nathaniel were certainly among this group, and we drafted Feidhlim Ginty at fly-half which isn’t his position. Letchworth were certainly happy with their win but we weren’t disappointed by the way we played.”
