Rugby was certainly the winner last Friday evening (28th January. The Under 12 entertained Verulamians and while winning is an important part of any sport, the young players in the Blue and Gold of the Home Club, under the watchful eye of Steve Corcoran, demonstrated that the sport of rugby is much more than that. Discipline was the word of the evening, and the referee made the a point of complementing the Ignatians not only on the quality of their play, but also how respectful and sporting they were. Indeed "they were a credit to the Club"

In terms of the rugby, the lads played some lovely rugby boys and grew in confidence as the game developed grew. It was 3- 1 at half time and after a minor lapse let OV’s in for their second score, the team took control with some excellent support play. There were some great individual scores from Donie and Sammy, but most notable scores were two team tries - one finished by Ollie H after good approach work and recycling and finally ball moved quickly from right to left for Ollie to dive in at the corner. Similarly, some good direct running and multiple phases saw Ollie G with a trademark backhand offload to Jeremiah on his shoulder who crashed over from short range.

Coach Alfie was unfortunately laid low with a serious bug and missed the delight to see the boys with smiles back on their faces after a challenging encounter the previous week. It was great preparation for their final Middlesex Grading at Ruislip next Sunday.

A great evening under the lights rounded off with some outstanding EIRFC hospitality in the shape of pizza and an iron-rich sports recovery drink for the coach. A big thank you to the parents for their, as ever, whole hearted support - and sponsoring the aforementioned recovery drink(s)
