The highlight of every player, coaches and parents' season is always the annual tour, and our trip to Skeg Vegas certainly lived up to the hype.

As an age group we are delighted that tours are encouraged every season, and this year we would like to put on record our thanks to our very own Coach David who put in a tremendous amount of hard work and time to ensure the entire youth section could experience a weekend away. A tour brings teammates, families and the whole club closer together, forming bonds and memories for life.

Tours are always special, and often the time of the season when you hit your peak performance after a season of progression, and this was certainly the case for the Under 12s. We had a huge touring contingent and managed to field two sides with names to compliment our camouflage tour kit, the Commandos and the Marines.

From the outset the players took on board instruction that Rugby is often won via the battle to contest possession which then enables you to apply pressure by moving forward towards the try line. To put it mildly the boys were animals.

On day one we played six matches , convincingly winning five matches and drawing one. This put both teams top of the leader board for the finals. On day two we played four matches again running in three huge wins and conceding our last match.

The Marines and the Commandos were sat in 1st and 3rd place respectively for the finals. After some negotiations/polite requests from the other clubs we were asked to step aside for the 3rd/4th space match and combine into one Enfield team to contest the main cup final against Scunthorpe which ended up being one game too much for our heroes, and thus we ended up runners up.

The boys came of age on this tour, the effort, commitment, desire and self-belief all came together and the coaches and parents could not have been more proud: they literally left everything on the pitch.

Combining the fun in the arcades, the mayhem in the swimming pool and the festivities at the fancy dress party, this tour will be remembered as one of the greatest for a very long time.

The tour operators and the hosts Skegness RFC must be applauded for truly embracing the spirit of Rugby, and also for delivering Tom Curry on awards night, what a great treat for everyone.

From Under 7 through to Under 15 everyone we bumped into on tour had a huge smile on their face, as the saying goes “No one loses on tour” The future for Enfield is very bright with such an amazing set of players, parents and coaches that are coming through the club.
