CHESS VALLEY U15S 55 ENFIELD IGNATIANS U15s 19
UNDER 15S DELIVER SPIRITED EFFORT BUT ARE HELD IN CHECK BY CHESS
The Enfield Ignatians U15s side played their second game of the season at Chess Valley, where the hosts’ speedy backline gave the visitors no amount of problems.
The blue and golds pack certainly gave a good account of itself, and particularly at rucktime. Their tackling, too, was in good order.
However, once the ball was moved away from the point of contact, Ignatians struggled with the pace of the game as Chess Valley claimed four breakaway tries.
Rhys Williams claimed the bulk of his side’s points after collecting a brace of tries and adding a conversion. Man of the Match Louis Caldwell also crossed for Ignatians.
Other standout performers prove to be debutant Angelo Russo and Alfie Smyth. The former showed his mettle with some big tackles and powerful runs, whereas the latter showed good physicality in the rucks, in addition to making some very good carries.
The team continue to be a work in progress and the coaching team of Gareth Williams and Brian Davey will no doubt be looking to give the squad some more game time. Gareth Williams said: “Enfield were excellent in the forwards, and take away the breakaway tries, then you would have had a much closer game.”
