Enfield under 15’s cemented their position at the top of the league with a scintillating performance at Donkey Lane on Sunday. The boys in Blue and Gold secured their 11th ‘W’ from 14 games this season with a huge 9 try win over league opponents Twickenham.

The visitors would have travelled up from South West London in good spirits after a handsome win over Ruislip last week. However those spirits were quelled by what was arguably the U15’s best performance of the season. The first try came on 2 minutes following a good carry from Hayden which drew in the defence. A simple pass to Donal put the centre away to finish in the corner. 5-0. Minutes later an Ollie G try was ruled out despite a lovely inside pass from Patrick.

On 8mins Enfield did score from a great team counter attack. A deep kick went to Full Back Patrick who made meters. Centre’s Donal and Ollie G were involved, the latter with a big leg-driving run. A quick ruck was won. Ollie H popped the ball up to David A who ran a good line onto the ball towards the tryline and as he was being slowed down he deftly offloaded to Ollie S who dived over. Patrick converted superbly from the corner. 12-0.

The next try was so good they scored it twice! A lovely running move was started with Patrick offloading to Sammy. After a penalty David A took up the running and Matteo dived to the line. He thought he had scored but the ball was recycled anyway and a busy Donal fed Ciaran to score. 17-0 20mins.

Adam got on the scoresheet next with a lovely swerving run to the posts. But credit should go the defence who put in a good set with committed tackling before Patrick started the breakaway. 24-0 25mins. Just seconds later Adam scored again despite a showboating finish! David had started the attack from kick off, he absorbed a big hit impressively before an offload to the try scorer. 27mins. 31-0

The last score of the half was a bitter moment for Twickenham following a sustained attack of theirs. They recycled through multiple phases on the Enfield 22 but were pushed backwards by our pin point tackling. A loose ball was picked up by Sammy who did the rest from his own half! 38-0. HT.

The onslaught didn’t let up after the break. 3 mins in, George picked up from the scrum. He turned to go right and then back doubled left where we had numbers. The ball went through hands before Cian offloaded to Patrick who was able to dot down in the corner.

The next try started in defence. Hayden ripped the ball back in the tackle to win possession. The team then broke with some slick passing to Sammy in space. He ran down the touchline and over towards the posts to score. 50-0. 38mins. The final try was scored on 41 minutes. Our wannabe ‘fly half’Hayden dinked the ball into space on the left. Donal and Kaiden exchanged passes before Cian clutched the ball and didn’t look back to cross the whitewash. 57-0 FT

It was some performance. Coach Alfie was delighted by our speed to ruck and an excellent defensive performance when needed. Yes, we often scored from long runs from deep as usual but most satisfying were the passes made by runners who quickly offloaded rather than clinging on to the ball, therefore sustaining attacks. That’s the stuff that creates tries against better defences. Superb stuff.

Our thanks to Twickenham for making the trip and for a valiant effort which was undoubtedly hampered by a number of late withdrawals which left them with only 16 players and coming on the back of a tough cup fixture on Friday evening. Thanks as always to all those who supported from the touchline.
