The threes have adjusted well to life in Herts-Middlesex Merit Table 3 this season but fatal lapses in concentration at key moments were to cost the visitors dearly, and consequently Welwyn pulled away for a decisive win.
Two tries from captain Bish Galloway and one from Harry Bowman kept Ignatians in the hunt, and they were very much in touching distance at 21-15 down.
However, against the better outfits in the division it pays to stay focused and a distracted Ignatians shipped three further tries to come off second best.
Ignatians also welcomed Mark Shuttlewood back to the fray after 5 years out of the game and, by all accounts, a player who has suffered Achilles tendon problems in the past, gave a very decent account of himself.
