For the first time this season, captain Bish Galloway felt his side got what they deserved after the visitors literally failed to turn up at Barnet. "We were shocking and, I must say, we deserved to be beaten. It was embarrassing at times," he said.

However, a side that has bristled with character this season, even in defeat, and which lost Jonny Cunnigham to injury inside a minute following an accidental collision with a team mate, managed to stay the course fairly well in the first period when they were playing up the slope.

Barnet piled on the pressure and went 12-0 up. However, Ignatians resurfaced before half-time and good work from Phil Sanders and Bish Galloway provided the platform for Hugh Halford to go over. The ensuing successful conversion enabled Ignatians to stay in touch as they were only five points down at 12-7.

Despite not firing on all cylinders, Ignatians certainly felt they had a chance in the second period particularly as they were playing down-wind, but that may have proved their undoing as perhaps they thought that they had done the hard yards.

Consequently, a scoreless third quarter was the prelude to a last 20 minutes nightmare as Barnet, having dug-in, were totally dominant. Very adept at forcing turnovers, they played the blue and golds, who were by now slipping off tackles with alarming regularity, off the park by running in 29 unanswered points. "It was a comedy of errors," was the skipper's conclusion.

However, the side are preferring to looking on the bright side and they will be seeking redemption against Cuffley on Saturday.
